Agradecimientos de Graham Johnson

Cuando Graham Johnson me envió el texto completo del lied "Die drei Sänger" le respondí agradecido que le regalaría el libro de las traducciones de todos los lieder cuando estuviera publicado. Esto, que aún era un deseo lejano, se convirtió en realidad el pasado mes de octubre de 2005, y fiel a mi promesa remití a Graham Johnson (con la correspondiente dedicatoria) los tres volúmenes de "Los lieder de Schubert".

Recientemente me ha escrito Graham Johnson agradeciéndome el regalo y la dedicatoria, en texto que reproduzco, me comenta que le halaga que le considere mi maestro, y cree que el propio Schubert estaría orgulloso de mi trabajo, aunque no se encuentra facultado para juzgar si mis traducciones son buenas.

I am most grateful for the substantial gift of three volumes of Schubert translations and the gratifying personal inscription to me. I am very flattered to be considered your teacher. The parcel you sent me had an address on the envelope which was illegible. I was unable to reply by post therefore. Fortunately Manel Cabero i Pueyo whom I met recently in Tenerife was able to forward me your e mail address. I am grateful to him for enabling me to be in contact wit you. You must have thought my silence ungrateful and cruel, but you must really write more clearly on the envelope when you send mail!
You have made an enormous contribution to Schubert studies in the Spanish-speaking world. The books are handsomely produced and beautiful to handle. Schubert himself would have ben delighted with your project. I am not in a position to judge your translations, but I am sure
that you have thought long and hard about each possible inflection. It is wonderful to think that Spanish singers will now have access to this riches thanks to you.
Many congratulations. If ever you find yourself in London please let me know I would be very interested to meet you and show you my library of Schubert texts. I have all the German and Austrian editions he used for his settings.
